Loft Insulation

We all know that heat rises, and in an uninsulated home a quarter of your heat is lost through the roof. Insulating your loft is a simple and effective way to save that waste and reduce your heating bills. In a gas heated, 3 bedroom semi-detached house, installing 270mm of loft insulation will save you around £180 a year on your heating bill.*

Traditionally, loft insulation was installed to a depth of 100mm, but current building regulations state that 270mm is required. Even if you have some insulation in your loft already, it may not meet current standards so it’s worth checking that you’ve got enough insulation to get the maximum saving.

Loft insulation is easy and quick to install using rolls of mineral wool insulation. The first layer is laid between the joists – the horizontal beams that make up the ‘floor’ of the loft – then another layer is cross-laid at right angles to cover the joists and make the insulation up to the required depth.
